Big Magnets for POWERFUL Motors: the lift industry
In cooperation with a manufacturer of elevators systems, RD Europe Group has developed a new engine that could respond more effectively to customer requests. Primarily in terms of power. To do this we have designed a very powerful magnet that could work at temperatures up to 200 °C without losing magnetic power. Which material could guarantee this performance? After a period of study and test, we replaced the neodymium 35SH with samarium 32SL, a samarium improved to provide the same constant magnetic induction, to a temperature passing from 150 °C to 200 °C, thanks to a Br coefficient loss in temperature of only -0.05% °C. The magnetic segment has been designed with a special shape to reduce the cogging effect and better adapt to the rotor’s specific slots. The RD Europe Group team then worked on both the shape of the piece and the material. The result? A more powerful engine (gearless motor for elevators of total weight of 360 kg with 1250 Nm of torque, load of 2,000 kg at 2:1 roping and static load of 4500 kg) and also less expensive thanks to the special coating not plated, which facilitates the gluing of the magnet.
